A chance for Manchester’s SF magazine starved millions to get their hands on the hard stuff.
We have organised a lunchtime reading by Interzone alumni Tony Ballantyne at the Central Library (St Peter’s Square) in the 2nd floor Reception Roomon Wednesday 11 June 1-2pm.
Roy will be selling Interzone and Black Static and a few books in the room before and after the event and will try to be set up there by 12:30. Entry is free but the books and magazines aren’t, though prices tend to be less than cover.
Recent converts to IZ will not have seen any stories from Tony unless they started before September 2003, when ‘The Ugly Truth’ appeared in Interzone 191, or are picking up back issues from the David Pringle era.
Tony’s first SF appeared in Interzone 138, December 1998, and by 2003 his appearances had risen to 12 and he was firmly part of Interzone’s second generation of British SF authors. His first novel Recursion was published July 2004 and two more had appeared by May 2007; Capacity and Divergence. Parts of all these were based on ideas first explored in Interzone.
Tony grew up in County Durham and studied Maths at Manchester University before moving to London for ten years. There he taught Maths and then later Information Technology.
He now lives in Oldham with his wife and two children. His hobbies include playing boogie piano, walking and cycling.
Until his second novel was published Tony was a full-time teacher who worked on his novels and stories in his spare time. Despite that handicap he managed to produce a variety of work to make many a full-time writer envious. He is now a pro writer and teaches four days a week.
Tony’s short stories now appear in a range of publications and anthologies. He is currently completing his fourth novel: Twisted Metal. He has also written for Private Eye and romantic fiction for womens’ magazines.
