I used to like them back in the day, and have a dozen albums on vinyl, though I haven't played one in years.

They certainly had a flair for 'unusual' titles - "Cunning Stunts", "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" and, using the word loosely, the classic "If I Could Do It All Over Again I'd Do It All Over You".

Their first album was the best of the ones I heard.... which was only the first few, I guess.... never saw or heard of them again after the 70s, apart from listening to their first in a house I stayed in in Germany in 1982 or so..... saw them live in Bristol in 1975.... Richard Sinclair was the violin player wasn't he? He wore a wide-brimmed hat, and they all looked great, the happiest and most sparky band I've ever seen, I reckon.... I'm glad to hear they kept up their success in one form or another!

Just got back from reading the article.... very interesting, thanx! No mention of a violin player.... maybe he was just part of that tour.... he was certainly enjoying himself, and was all over the stage like it was his band! And he and Pye seemed to be the best of mates on stage.... for some reason I thought his name was Richard.

Anyway I do fondly remember the Grey and Pink album.... must say I never have considered them to be "prog-rock". I enjoyed "prog-rock" like Yes and ELP (where Deep Purple gave you a skimpy hour and 20 minutes, ELP played nonstop for over 3 hours... and no it was not boring!)

I like what he says about changes being good for music, and I love the way anything and everything gets mixed together these days. I'll have to chase up some Caravan music to explore!

Hi (Dennis the anorak) here again.

Richard Sinclair was he bass player - and occasional vocals. He left in 1972 (formed Hatfield and the North).

The violin/viola player is the new boy (as he likes to call himself) Geoffrey Richardson, who joined in 1972.

... puts anorak away and goes back into his cupboard ...........

PS: must agree, I never thought of them as prog rock either (though many do).

PPS: they are still recording and gigging - and damn fine they still are. This is not negotiable, it is fact
