Club members get a price discount at Fictionwise as always.

One whole issue, looks just as good as the others I have read like this (Asimov's, etc.). Nice work.

I swapped my print sub for a Fictionwise one. Thing is, there's no sign of IZ 218 yet, though I understand it's shipped to subscribers and been out in the shops for a week now.

Is there a fault with my e-sub, or have I just to expect to get it later?

Sorry Kenny we have posted on this in the Iz 217 thread but I'll repeat here
Quote:
The Fictionwise delay results from a computer problem, time spent at Worldcon and a change of procedures at F'wise.

If I have this right F'wise updated weekly in the recent past but now do it on a fortnightly basis. Also they only load up half the available files after that fortnight and put the rest up a week later. So for downloaders it appears that nothing has changed but when uploaders miss their deadline the delay is magnified.

So the TTA outstanding files (IZ 217 and BS 5) have been uploaded and will appear within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Then we have BS 6 and IZ 218 plus CW 10 to come.

Preparing the files for F'wise involves quite a lot of work but they will get there. Sorry about the lateness.

That was posted on 16 Sept and I'm hoping they'll be there next Monday or Tuesday for those of us in the GMT zone.

Thanks, Roy. IZ 217 was my last delivered issue, so I hadn't checked that thread with regards to the Fictionwise situation.

I can live with the delay, I just didn't want to miss out altogether. The Fictionwise sub is an experiment in space-saving, and if it works out I'll certainly consider adding CW and BS to my 'bookshelf'.

Cheers.

Thanks Kenny and let us know what you think of F'wise versions.

What sort of reader device do you use? We have not tested them all so it's interesting to know what people think and their reactions to IZ etc on the different models.

For the time being I'll download the pdf for reading off my computer and the MobiPocket version for my phone (Sony Ericsson P1i). I may get an iPhone when my contract's up (don't hate me), so I guess I'll try the eReader version in that instance. I'll let you know what I think of IZ218 when it pops up in my bookshelf.

All best.

Not sure what's happening with F'wise. We have posted the files to them but nothing has appeared so far. They do seem to have a full 'new this week' section but nothing from TTA so I can't blame the effects of the Credit Crunch.

We'll keep you informed. Sorry

Roy,

You're not alone; Swimming Kangaroo have had long delays on Blind Faith and now on Killers. I think that they're swamped, but that's not much consolation.

Colin

Still no sign at 23:23 Monday 13th Oct. Are Fictionwise on the West Coast?

This morning I awoke to find the elusive 'your copy of IZ has been added to your Fictionwise bookshelf' email waiting for me. Hurrah!

But wait. As I should have sussed from the preceding posts, it is not issue 218 that print subscribers and casual shoppers have had for weeks now, but 217 which I've had in hardcopy for months.

Like I said in a previous post, this Fictionwise thing is an experiment for me: it's cheaper, should save space and my dog can't eat a pdf. The jury's still out on whether having to read the whole mag off either my laptop or mobile phone is too much of a drawback, but this delay is, frankly, a deal-breaker.

I'll persevere with my remaining five issues, but if I'm still months behind the rest of the community by then, I'll give up on Fictionwise, which would be a shame.

As for the pdf (I haven't checked the other versions yet), it looks fine and congratulations for allowing copy and paste, but although the film and book reviews are listed on the contents page, the file ends after only the second of Tony Lee's DVD reviews. (Lucky I still have my traditional copy, then.)

All the text should be there Kenny so thanks for that tip. I'll let the editor know. If you have other comments do tell us because, as I've said before, we can't test the files on all possible E Readers.

Not sure what's happened to BS 5 but I will ask.

Looks like he is right.

The Mobipocket versions cuts out there, too (after Tony Lee)

If you are familiar how they have internal TOC links then 'Mutant Popcorn' and 'Bookzone' do not, but just are plain text - of which the text is missing
