Has just arrived through my letterbox in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, with that intoxicating just printed smell and a nifty cover of Stephen Volk in his old military gear.

Number one son is at uni, the daughter-thing is at her summer (?) job, and 'er indoors is at work, so I'm off for a bath with me Black Static. I may be some time.

I've not made it to the stories yet, but Tony's review of "Skinwalkers" made me laugh out loud, and from reading Pete's book reviews, apart from getting the new John Langan collection, I really should be investing in some books from down under.

Another sublime issue. The non-fiction was to its usual high standard with a surprising, but no less entertaining, change of tone to Stephen Volk's column. I enjoyed all the stories this time, in particular Steven J. Dines' haunting 'The Broken and the Unmade' and the bizarre 'Kebab Bob' from the always superb pen of Ralph Robert Moore, but the standout tale for me was 'The Toyol' by Joel Arnold which combines a shocking real-world situation with a wonderfully executed, and highly unnerving monster. The impatient wait for issue 40 begins now.
