I want to run some short interviews on the website under the Case Notes blog umbrella, with emphasis on the people reviewed in the magazine.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of three or four questions from myself based on the book(s) that I'm reviewing, plus the usual 'promote your work' question, and for the remainder of the interview I'd roll some dice to randomly select three questions from a list of eleven.
So what generic questions would you like to see put to horror writers?
Thoughts anyone?

Here's a few, of varying quality and interest...
What was the last sentence you wrote?
There's no one else around. Do you smell the flower or kick it?
What software or devices do you use for writing?
Are you happy?
Are you writing what you really want to be writing?
How do you avoid distractions while writing?
Is it surprising?*
Fish fingers or custard?
Who's the best?
Who's the worst?
Tea or coffee?
Literary awards: a good thing or a bad thing?
QWERTY or Dvorak?
*When they say "Is what surprising?" yell loudly at them.

Do you write horror because writing science fiction involves too much research?
What's the worst thing you've ever done?
How many stalkers do you have?
How much do you drink before public appearances?
Do you want to tell me about your mother?
Do you want me to tell you about your mother?
How many of your fans have you slept with?
Is your mother your biggest fan?

When the Guardian Review come round to interview you, which look will you adopt for your photograph? 1. The wistful gaze into the middle distance or 2. The straight to camera, grimly serious, bordering on condescension, stare?

Here's a few:
Does mental or physical pain affect or influence your writing?
Do you daydream often?
Does music inspire your work?
Do you relate more with aspects of your character's lives than with those of the people around you?
In creating your characters do you design them around how much they'd understand you as a person? Or, more specifically, do you create characters that you perceive to be better at understanding you than the people around you?
Why do you write?
Why do you write horror?

I thought I should join the fun here. Do you ever find aspects of the bahaviour of a charactor you are writing about come through in your own behaviour or attitudes? Eg if you wrote a very left or right wing charactor do you think that might temporarily affect your own politics? Do you ever test out actions in your fiction by trying or simulating them yourself?

I'm now staring wistfully into the middle distance, pretending that I'm not upset you didn't choose my question.

The interview isn't there for me, Pete. Did you write it in white? It's no doubt my computer's fault.

Pete wrote: I can confirm - following that excellent interview - that Nicole wrote a story based on Shostakovich's 14th Symphony that appeared in the Classical Music Horror anthology I produced last year.
