Sped through this issue. Many wonderful stories. My favourite this issue has to be the James Cooper, 'Stray Dogs'. Strongly affecting story. I also enjoyed Carole's story set in an apocalyptic Edinburgh. Always hits home all the harder when you're reading about the place you live.

I've been dipping in and out, so I've not read the entire issue. I thought Carole Johnstone's "Signs of the Times" was tremendous- well rooted in its weirdness.
There was a line in James Cooper's "Stray Dogs" (no spoilers Ray :) )-
"My Jojo," he says softly, and kisses it once before slipping it into his pocket.
-that just broke my heart.

Thanks for the review Des, and also your message through these boards Ray (not sure if my reply got sent).

For those interested, I've blogged about how my story came about: http://andrew-hook.blogspot.co.uk/2013/ ... e-sky.html (NB: there are spoilers, so beware if you haven't read it yet).

Sorry Andrew - got it, but read it via my phone which doesn't like to send replies for some reason.

I like the idea of blogging about a story's creation, partly because I'm nosey like that but also because I always like to learn what I can about people's writing processes. I might steal that idea, actually, if you don't mind, especially as I've done it already in hopeful anticipation of a 'story notes' section in a collection I might get puiblished one day. Might as well start putting such details on the blog.

I don't think I hold copyright over it as a blog idea ;)

Look forward to reading about the gestation of your stories.

Particularly enjoyed the superb stories by Gary McMahon and Carole Johnstone. Black Static fiction at its best!

Must say Carole's story was my favourite this issue - a wonderfully weirdly realised scenario that drew me in, held me there, and touched my heart.

Sweet zombie Jeebuz, guess what was in my mailbox when I got home today? I don't know what kind of threats Black Static HQ may have levelled at Australia Post, but they certainly got it here in record time this month, especially considering the long weekend.

Sorry to see that Chris Fowler's Interference is disappearing (I always read the Comment columns first, and not just because they are at the front), but interested to see Lynda Rucker's future contributions to that section.

And now it's time to get reading.

This was a great issue! Andrew's story was my favourite of the bunch, but Carole's and Tim's came a close second!
I always read cover to cover so I look forward to reading Stephen and Christopher's comments first, tis a shame this is Christopher's last one!

On a side note, I'd love to see colour return to the pages of Black Static. Reading through the magazine there is something in the back of your mind telling you something's missing. When you open Interzone you know exactly what that is. (Just my two cents!)

Have just started the issus and just want to say that James Cooper's 'Stray Dogs' is a stunning gut-wrencher. Powerful, powerful stuff!
