Sad news. And he was only 69.

Just noted on FB, it's not so long ago that we saw him at World Horror Con. in Brighton.
He was a very entertaining GOH.

Sorry to hear this. When I was a kid I graduated from Enid Blyton books to Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators then on to Tarzan and James Bond books, but “The Rats” had just came out, so I read that and that was me hooked on horror. Apart from seeing him at the WHC two years ago, and at last year’s Fantasycon, I remember seeing him at my first WFC in London (his too, I think) and he appeared at a very early Edinburgh Book Festival when it only ran every two years, and told us all about the problems he had with another writer suing him about the contents of “The Spear” and bad movie adaptations of his books, one featuring very small dogs with bits of carpet stuck on their backs to make them look like rats.

This is a shame. He was very entertaining at WHC in Brighton two years back and I enjoyed listening to him even though I admit I haven't read any of his books.
