I really like the new format.

One negative for me though is that I preferred how the larger format placed the Interzone masthead directly over the complete cover filling artwork rather than having the separate red areas for the words and a separate area for the art work.

I can't say I was happy when I first heard that the magazine size was changing, but now that I have it I think it looks great (though my copy was damaged in the post :( ). Also a big advantage is that it will fit on a smaller shelf with my hardback books.
"The Message" is a fantastic story, just my cup of tea.
One problem I have is the book reviews are a little out of date, I went to try and buy "Adrift on the sea of rains" but the HB and PB are sold out from Amazon. This came out in April so I would have expected the review in 240 or 241.

That's Amazon's fault. They won't hold stock of small press books, and so always show them out of print or unavailable. They also demand a 60% discount, which means any sale through them is at a loss. So I'm not especially bothered. Adrift on the Sea of Rains is readily available from http://shop.whippleshieldbooks.com/

I started reading Cormac McCarthy's The Road, and don't yet know what to make of it. It is sometimes said to be bleak, but there's a fine story of compassion in there. It is not a pleasure to read though, since the bleakness is nearly unrelenting, For me this means that I can only read a few pages at one sitting. It is too intense for my present tastes. The book's short paragraphs and telegraphic sentences makes this feeling worse. We'll see if I like it in several days.

Due to technical difficulties, my review of issue 242 is a little late (it was written ages ago). However, it is now up:

I can't get that link to work.
:?
I'm seeing a login page, but even when I've joined, the review of IZ #242 doesn't appear.

Just read Bunker's 'The Remembered' and thought it was wonderful.

OK, it looks like the technical difficulties are still there. I'll get back to you.

Out of interest, can you see this article:

Interzone and Black Static arrived today, at last.
Interzone in new format looking really great. This is by far the best looking SF magazine and the content is as good.

Review at Locus up now:http://www.locusmag.com/Reviews/2012/10/lois-tilton-reviews-short-fiction-late-october-3/

Always interesting to read different peoples views on these stories. Personally, I think 'The Remembered' was my highlight of the issue - closely followed by 'Needlepoint' and 'Wonder', which oddly seemed too bleak for a lot of people. 'Strigoi' was peppered with lots of pleasantly exotic touches, but in the final analysis I think I'm just plain burned out from vampire stories at the moment, no matter what name they go by. I can't say the other two stories did anything for me,but hey - different strokes for different folks, right?

IZ 242 uploaded to Fictionwise, due date 27/11 but then BS 30's due date was 13/11 and so far no sign.
