In issue 29: novelettes by Nina Allan and Ray Cluley, and short stories by Renee Carter Hall, Tim Lees, Baph Tripp; the usual comment columns by Stephen Volk and Christopher Fowler; Pete Tennant's Case Notes (book reviews, including interview with Nicholas Royle); Tony Lee's Blood Spectrum (DVD/BD reviews); Mike O'Driscoll's Silver Bullets (TV series reviews); cover art by Ben Baldwin, and interior art by Ben again, Rik Rawling, Robert Dunn, Rich Sampson, and David Gentry -- the Black Static fly returns!

More details will appear on the Black Static > Current Issue page.

The issue is at press, but it's with a different printer, one I haven't used before. I'll update on progress. It's also the first issue in the new format and everything... I'm sure it'll be fine!

Meanwhile, please check for a subscription reminder on the issue 28 insert. If you see a cross there, and you haven't renewed yet, please do so very soon so we can include your copy of BS29 in the main mailing (it costs three times as much to post otherwise). Many thanks!

We hope you enjoy this new issue, and that the changes work. Looking forward to reading your comments on this thread.

Copies are now in the post and should arrive within a few days UK, 3 working days Europe, 7 working days RoW... approximately. Please let me know when your copy arrives.

I'm absolutely delighted by how it's turned out. Couldn't be happier. Let me know what you think.

And what you think of contents too, of course!

My copy arrived today and it looks fantastic. Went through the letterbox nicely with the new size which is handy as my postie has no concept of the phrase 'Do not bend'!

One thing though, is the ommission of White Noise permanent or just for this issue?

We ran out of space, Ross. But it's a good question. We aren't sent anywhere near as many news items as we'd like, so Pete is often looking for more, and this after he's just turned in sixteen pages of book reviews. And when the news is already there on the internet anyway, I'm not sure that it's worth it. White Noise was supposed to have a more informal, reader-led feel to it, but if that's not happening...

Thanks for liking the new look. I'm very pleased by the reactions so far. :)

Another thing I noticed. There is no issue information on the spine for when the issues are on the book shelf.

It's a very narrow spine. (Is it a big deal?)

I did think about it, and will think about it again for the next issue, but if I'm concerned that it might not sit exactly in the middle of the spine (with it being so narrow, it'd only have to slip a tiny fraction to look awful) I'll delete it. Course, if the page count was 128, I would't hesitate.

Well my other 28 issues don't even have spines so I guess it isn't too big a deal.

What factors will be of influence on the page increase?

My copy arrived last night.

I really like the new format - think you've definitely done the right thing by switching to it.

Only had time last night to read one story, 'Sunshine' by Nina Allan - which I thoroughly enjoyed :)

Mine came today - I was wary of change but I love the new look. And it's much easier for the bookshelf, too. Brilliant.

Right, off to read some stories...

I'm distraught and sooo disappointed!.... Mike O'Driscoll panning Dexter Season 6! Horror!.... I've loved every Season so far and Season 5 even pleased me more than "Trinity Killer" Season 4 (I thought Julia Styles was marvellous). I think Deb has to run out of steam so it must have been a task to find something for her to do that was different. But True Blood? I enjoyed Season 1 but felt no compulsion to watch Season 2.

And just as I hoped, it was waiting for me at home! Intrigued by the new format. Looking forward to getting stuck in.
