Shortlists are out:-

http://www.britishfantasysociety.co.uk/ ... announced/

Black Static and Interzone for Magazine, "Dermot" by Simon Bestwick for Short Fiction and Case Notes for Non-Fiction.

Plenty of fellow travellers in various categories, including James Cooper for Novella.

"A Book of Horrors" is dominating the Novella/Short Fiction categories.

Congratulations to all the contenders.

Indeed. And the best of luck to the jurors - there are some massive titles in there.

I have to admit, Ranjna and I recommended The Weird at least partly out of devilry.

On that score, good job no one went for the SF Encyclopedia. I remembered the day after voting that I'd meant to give it a nod for non-fiction. That would have kept you quiet for a while, Pete!

If I get time I'd love to work my way through some of the nominees as usual, even if this year it won't make any difference to the results. I'm actually in the middle of Gorel and the Pot-Bellied God right now, so I might go on to the other novellas.

Congratulations to all the TTA nominees!

Nope, it's Independent Press I'm judging. Non-Fiction is somebody else's problem, though I wouldn't mind judging that category

I quite fancy working my way through some of the nominees as well, especially as I have "A Book of Horrors" and "House of Fear" slated for review, and that's two/three categories as good as covered right there.

I realised that I'd made that mistake in the middle of last night and it literally kept me awake...

I'd mock you, but I'm pretty much the same and would almost certainly have got out of bed, turned the computer on and edited the post

I would have done if I hadn't already been in hot water with Ranjna for staying up so late posting in the first place!

Yes, congrats to all. Some interesting choices, and some very well deserved ones. I know who I'll be crossing fingers for in each of the categories - this must be what following a sports team feels like. :)

The long list has just been made public:-

http://www.britishfantasysociety.co.uk/ ... sy-awards/

Must have been a nightmare for the Awards administrator to sort out.

Lots of TTA mentions, but too many to mention. In Non-Fiction, I do hope somebody realised "Coffinmaker's Blues" by Stephen Volk and Stephen Volk's Black Static column were one and the same and amalgamated the votes.

Likewise Victoria Leslie's 'Timekeeping' in the short story category, the author listed once as V.H. Leslie and a second time as L.H. Leslie.

On a panel about awards on Friday, the BFS chair said that some of the winners would be "discussion pieces"...
