Comic-books binge...
Re-read Thor: Ages Of Thunder by Matt Fraction, which boasts some glorious painted artwork. This graphic novel focuses on the mythical dimension that was missing from the movie version of Thor.
Just finishing The Thanos Imperative by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning - certainly one of the very best cosmic sagas of superheroes in space opera that I've ever read. Guardians of the Galaxy, the avatar of Death, Inhumans, the Kree and an evil Mar-Vell, hell from the cancer-verse of all-consuming life, a talking psychic dog, and Rocket Raccoon! I doubt there's enough money in Hollywood or the known universe for a movie version, though.
Next up is Secret Avengers 3...

I'm in novella mode at the moment - just whipped through Sandy DeLuca's standalone "Reign of Blood" and made a start on Michael Reynier's collection "Five Degrees of Latitude".

Finished Twentieth Century Ghosts which I agree is a stunning collection then leapt straight into Horns which confirmed how brilliant a writer Joe Hill is. (Must be genetic or something...)
Am now hurtling through Gary mcMahon's Tales of the Weak and Wounded which confirms just how brilliant a writer he is...

Finished "The Business" by Iain Banks which was completely uninteresting even though it was easily readable. Picked up "The Pugilist At Rest", a collection of short stories by Thom Gunn. Read one of his collections before ("Cold Snap") and thoroughly enjoyed it, so looking forward to this.

Read "Lost Bodies" by David Manderson last week, and reviewed it here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13563396-lost-bodies No blood and guts at all, but an intensely gripping and disturbing psychological study of a fictional Glaswegian serial killer.
Then read Alison Littlewood's "A Cold Season". I was seriously impressed with her really brilliant short story "The Discord Of Being" in the new Eibonvale Anthology "Where Are We Going?", so wanted to check this book out. Certainly functions well enough as a pleasurable page turner but maybe all a bit YA sub-Buffy for me. Perhaps I'm not the target audience. Tried again after that to continue reading Baciagalupi's Windup Girl then gave up trying to like all that racism and bribery. Started Philip K Dick's Man In The High Castle instead... so much better. Contemporary best-sellers just don't seem to agree with me

On my hols I read:
Silent Voices by Gary McMahon - His best novel to date IMO
Blood Ocean by Weston Ochse - Supreme prose but didn't really grab me and the characters were a little indistinct.
Wild Justice Edited by Ellen Datlow - Mixed bag of a themed antho with Michael Marshall Smith's story the standout.
The Acceptable Face of Tyrany by Gary Fry - Well written and inteligent creepiness from a consistently good proponent of the short form.
Osama by Lavie Tidhar - An exeptional novel that just engrossed from start to finish.
And half way through The Alchemist of Souls by Anne Lyle which I'm enjoying immensely

Finished the Thom Gunn collection, "The Pugilist At Rest". Some seriously good stories here - particularly if you like boxing and/or Vietnam (and if - like me - you don't, then it doesn't really matter). Think grandson of Raymond Carver.
Then read "The Black Country" by Joel Lane. A standalone story published through the Nightjar imprint. Enjoyed it a lot.
Now reading three short stories by Raymond Chandler under the title "Pearls Are A Nuisance". Also still reading (at work) "Mystery in Spiderville" by John Hartley Williams - a book so surreal that I think Alexander Stark on this thread would approve and love...

It seems very appropriate that the TTA forum should boast a member of the undead amongst its contributing members. Quite a claim to fame actually.  We're a silent minority, and greatly under-represented and marginalised in contemporary society in a very real sense...
