Despite fierce competition, I've managed to get on a series of "Writing Labs" being run by Scottish Book Trust and CBBC to find new writers for children's television. We've met twice so far and the first time included a brainstorming session where the ten of us came up with some programme ideas which were then pitched to some school kids who shouted out things like "Rubbish!", "Bor-ing!", etc. Now we've all come up with ten ideas which have been whittled down to two for further development. Apart from the hard work, it's an interesting look at the mindset of the BBC, particularly around issues involving religion, and the supernatural.

I bet - would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for some of that.

Sounds really interesting. Would love to be involved with something like that myself.

Actually on the first day we got a tour of the studios and mixing and dubbing and editing suites and I actually got an idea for a crime story based on something the sound editor said as a throwaway remark.
Back tomorrow for day three when we get the feedback from one of the head honchos down in London about our ten ideas, and a producer is coming up to grill us about what we think is our two best ideas from the ten, based on the pitch document we've come up with - description, tag line, photo, etc.
