Today discovered that Hodder & Stoughton are on Goodreads, and they appear to have given all of their books five star ratings.
Okay, logically you would expect them to only publish books that they think are pretty marvellous, and they rate them under the H&S name so no attempt at subterfuge.
And yet, as my old dad used to say, self praise is no praise, and the five star rating does have an impact on the overall rating for individual titles.
All seems a bit iffy to me. Thoughts anyone?

A bit rude really. The site isn't really for the publishers, it's for the readers.

Very iffy, I'd say. Surely that completely removes the point of the site?

I agree completely; I see it on there a lot from publishers and writers. Leads to much unintentional humour when you see someone's given their own book five stars, and something by Shakespeare, say, one or two.
I do add books I've worked on, to make my booklist as accurate as possible, but I don't give them a rating.
