I'm still trying to figure out the best films of the decade, but in the meantime here are my best of 2009:-

The Spirit
Slumdog Millionaire
The Wrestler
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Watchmen
Knowing
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Coraline
Drag Me To Hell
Zombieland

And the worst of the year was "Lesbian Vampire Killers", by a wide, wide and wider still margin.

Reasons are given on the myspace blog (link below), sort of.

So what'd everyone else rate in 2009?

I'll get back to my faves of 2009 but first, wolverine? For me it was the worst movie of the year, they tore tge history and the characters to shreds. That and xmen 3 have ruined the xmen franchise for me and I'm so glad fox doesn't have the rights to any other marvel films. Maybe first class and magneto will make up for it but somehow I doubt it.

(Sorry really had to rant about that)

Worst movie of the year. Gil have you seen "Lesbian Vampire Killers"?

Marvel (and DC) have pretty much torn their characters apart whenever it suits, so I'm not overly bothered by that. I thought the story held together well considered in isolation, liked Jackman and especially the snarling Schreiber, and was taken with the battle scenes, particularly the closing fracas at Three Mile Island. It wasn't a classic, not even a superhero classic, but a big old cuddly spectacle movie, and that's enough to get it on my list.

I will have to check that lesbian vampire killers.

I do agree about schreiver and jackman, and friends of mine did enjoy it, but I am such an xmen fan I think I was more dissapointed than anything else.

As to the continuity, I think it is perfectly acceptable to play around with it but to change it to that extent...

Any way, off to find some o'those lesbian vampire killers, maybe they'll make my best of :D

Have you seen "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel"? That would be in my top 10 list for 2009. Watched "Zombieland" last night and loved it, but I doubt that the sequel will be as good.

As far as horror/sf go I really enjoyed the weirdness of "The Box" (based on Richard Matheson's short story) and don't understand why so many people hated it.
