I can remember seeing the variation where the time traveller ends up in the middle of a mound/building/whatever that wasn't there before, or experiences a drop of several feet due to subsidence. This takes it to a new level though, and was great fun, unless you're a rat of course.
An update on what we have to look forward to:-
3rd - Roy Gray (our first poem)
4th - Alison J. Littlewood (our first female)
5th - Bob Lock (definitely a first)
6th - Joanne Thomas (our first person with swords)
As two drop off I'll add two more, with the exception that any TTA contributors will be pushed to the front of the queue (whether they want it or not ).

First: Woo hoo! I got named dropped!
Second: Woo hoo! I've been picked!
Third: Don't worry, they're all blunt. Except fot the kitchen knives. And, if I were going to use a kitchen implement to attack people with, it'd be with the carving fork. Have I thought too much about this?
Anyway, loved today's time travelling rats - and agree with the second comment on the page! Yesterday's party was neatly done.

Oh, that poem's terrific.
This is great fun. A little treat everyday. It's just like - well, like one o' them advent calendar thingies. Funny, that.

Sorry for the slow reply. I'll have a rummage through my archives and pick out one of the stronger stories!
Pleased to read Gareth's 'Hot Rats' again - a great little short. Now I need to go back and read Jim and Roy's days!

Got it and you're in. It occurs to me, as you don't use your name when posting here, you could keep schtum and praise your own story when it's linked to
Loved Roy's poem, which conveys the beauty and wonder of the natural universe with quark, strangeness and charm.

Thanks for the comments on Towards Darwin. Pity I can't show you my original version but, although its archived here, you need a subscription to see it and that will set you back £565 so I can't see it there either.

Roy: Great poem. And well done getting it past the physicists!
Alison: Enjoyed that, thank you. Nice touch the kid who kicked him in going back to watch high tide. See, this is why I stick with owning dogs. It's not that they aren't evil, just that they don't have opposable thumbs...
