Did I register for the forum too late to take part in the sweep? My account was only activated today.

Roy - I rather think Holland would still have thumped Spain in the cricket world cup.
Jack - no not at all, there's a spot left and the team's in a group that's not played any matched yet. So, if you can put up with having Ecuador, you're in. Just send me £5 via paypal.

I'm sure you are right about that Neil but Australia would get to the final if it were cricket whereas neither Spain nor Holland be expected to come through. I owe Andy C. the book fair proceeds already so he will pay my due and I'll pay him as my Paypal account is less than flush now.

I am pleased to be represented by Switzerland in this sweep, it being the home of CERN, also history's neutral power, and the centre for research brainstorming and human justice, and provider of optimum palliative care. They also just beat Ecuador.

Must admit I'm enjoying the games I've been able to see. Although whenever I've put my daughter to bed and returned to a game the previously winning team has had their fortunes reversed (Spain were 1-0 up for example!)

Might be a handy tactic to rely on if Ghana are getting gubbed, Andrew. Two nil down at half time...right it's time for Cora's bed!

Bit late for her bedtime, but at 1-0 down it was mine. Didn't work!
In my work sweepstake I have Nigeria, so little luck there too.

Just a wee update to say that regular Interzone reviewer and Dumbarton supporter, Jack Deighton, has taken up the final slot in the sweep, which is Ecuador in group E. That means group E now reads:
GROUP E Switzerland Des Lewis Ecuador Jack Deighton France Chris Kelso Honduras Andy Hedgecock

Well, that's the groups stages done and dusted. Quite a lot of surprises, a few bitter disappointments and half of our players are now out of the game.
For the lucky few who are left, the next set of games are head to head and line up like this:
Brazil (Keith Brooke) v Chile (Eeson Rajendra) Colombia (Aoife Flynn) v Uruguay (Max Hedgecock) France (Chris Kelso) v Nigeria (Neil Williamson) Germany (Vaughan Stanger) v Algeria (Stephen Theaker) Netherlands(Robert Jeffrey) v Mexico (Chris Murdoch) Costa Rica (Alistair Rennie) v Greece (Rebecca Payne) Argentina (Yvonne Wilson) v Switzerland (Des Lewis) Belgium (Rob Adams) v USA (Jim Steel)
Game on!

Ghana exited yesterday so I'm out which is a shame, but I've really enjoyed the games I've watched. Nigeria are my work sweepstake team, Neil, so I'll join you in cheering them on against France

Just listened to the Algeria match this morning - that was a nice surprise! Don't think they'll make it easy for Germany.
Really impressed with the USA qualifying - took great team spirit not to collapse after going a goal down. But all those collisions... Explains why they wear so much padding in American football.
