Same - loved it from the first line! Great humour throughout (though not without its serious message) and an ending that hits like a quick kick to the family ones.

By the way, V H Leslie says thanks to all who said nice things about her story, she's glad you liked it. She'd say so herself but she's still waiting for her TTA Forum log-in confirmation.

Bit behind on this, but just read Ray's story (#1)
Ray is the master of the opening line:
"Every Christmas Eve we go down to the bridge to throw our presents into the river."
Superb!

Next four:-
9th - Jim Hawkins
10th - Michael Kelly
11th - Anthony Watson (Karswell)
12th - David McGroarty
Four more people are waiting in the wings, so we have another eight places going spare.

Blimey Bob, where do you get your ideas from..? Actually, don't answer that, I don't think I want to know the answer. (Bet that particular one was a long time coming though).

OK, belated feedback. Imagine smileys all over the place.
Daniel: Great concept for the poem.
Alison: That was almost short and sweet. Guess it's more short and shockingly good.
Bob: I just know you were smirking when you wrote that! Filled my tea break very well and I loved the little twist.
PS A human is for life, not just for Christmas

Great poem by Daniel. (I read it as a story though. Poems really do baffle me.. )
And another by Alison, short and terrifyingly sweet!!
I really enjoyed Bob's, a sci-fi twist that I hadn't seen before. Nicely done!
Cool story from Jo, it left me wanting to know more.

Been loving these - especially Bob's and Jim's, which both gave me a good (and much-needed) laugh!

Just catching up!! (And thank you for the very kind words!)
Jo, interesting twist...a lot told/implied within a short piece.
Michael, some terrific description in yours. Beautiful. (I especially liked the 'white noise and black static' though, ha!
Jim, loved the Three Wise Men - that gave me a giggle this morning. I liked the 'if you're a student reading this...'

As everyone, I have to say that Jim's Three Wise Men was a good giggle.

Lovely story, Michael.
Glad people are enjoying 'Thee Wise men.' It was great fun writing a short piece. I might add a few more of the Annals of the University of Babylon just for a laugh. Good way to vent a bit of spleen at the stupidities that working part-time at a UK university involves!
I had three great bits of pre-Xmas news this week:
(1) My partner's sister is not coming for Xmas after all.
(2) My little local newsagent stocks Interzone!
(3) Gardner Dozois emailed me to say that Digital Rites is going into Years Best SF.

Thanks, everyone. I'm really enjoying all these, as well. So thanks to Pete.
Jim, congratulations on all three counts.
