Neil Williamson singles out Nina Allan's 'Wilkolak' for praise on his blog:

Somewhere else (tried to find link, failed) I read that the homosexual relationship in Luke Sholer's 'We Are Two Lions' was "tacked on" and "exploitation".

I finished this tonight and thought it an outstanding collection, all the stories were first class in their own way, apart from the Joel Lane which I found too brief and a bit pointless, in fact I thought the Two Lions story was a Joel Lane one, I had to check the contents page to be certain. This was a superb story, which would be great as a movie, but that's just my opinion. I'm still not sure whre the Ghosts come into it, too gimmicky I reckon, but try telling Andy Cox and you get nowhere, he's just a stubborn bugger.

It's the ghosts that were 'tacked on' and 'exploitation'.
"We Are Two Lions" reminded me of a film when I first read it - can't recall the title, but Stallone and, I think, Banderas were rival assassins, though not lovers, one trained by the other and now wanting to break out on his own.

I see Ellen Datlow has given honorable mention to seven stories from Crimewave 11 for her Best Horror of the Year anthology. Sadly, mine wasn't one of them, but congratulations to the other authors she selected!
Specifically, they are Nina, Ilsa, Richard, Christopher, Joel, Alison, and Mikal. Well done.

Yes its really good but what is the boundary between horror and crime fiction? I guess your story sits on the crime side considering it was selected for Ed Gorman's best-of-the-year crime anthology.

Oh, I'm not too upset. My stories have never really connected with Ellen, and, as you said, Ed Gorman's going to use mine for his crime anthology.
I am happy for the other Crimewave authors, though. For half the stories in the issue to receive honorable mention by Ellen is a credit to both the authors and to Andy.

An interesting discussion to be had there I think, on the crime/horror boundary...
Meanwhile, wanted to quickly say that Mario Guslandi has reviewed CW11 for Rick Kleffel's Agony Column.

And Dave Honig makes another appearance.
I can understand the mistake. I can't type Cluley, takes me half a dozen attempts to get that right.

Ray, now might be an opportune moment to tell Andy your name is actually Culley...

I get 'Clooney' a lot, which only ever leads to disappointment...
I've still only read a few due to having so many anthologies on the go at once, but I really did love the first Hoing/Honig one.
(And as an aside, considering there's an amusing typo thread around, first typing had that as 'many anthologies on the goat once', perhaps revealing too much about my reading habits.)

Hoing/Honig--who cares? Because, of course, it's actually pronounced "Smith" anyway.

Dave Simms reviews CW11 on Horror World.
"Crimewave 10 ranked as one of the best anthologies read front cover to cover in years. This volume surpasses it with ease. Highly recommended in every way possible."

Nice review. At least this guy got my last name right. However, you'd think a fellow named Dave might have remembered my first name as well...
