Good to see Mr Volk's positive comment on DEADWOOD, in BS #5...
8)

This TV western series is often pointlessly bleak, and perhaps the strong language is overdone (almost self-parody?), but casting is usually flawless with acting and writing only weakened by slow pacing. I enjoyed season 1 on DVD. Thinking about buying the other 2 seasons.

Does it get any better?

I honesty think if you weren't addicted to DEADWOOD in Season One, you won't be taken with Seasons Two and Three. The soliloquys (sp?) become even more lunguistically rich but baffling, and it certainly doesn't get any more cheerful!! But if you loved the world and the characters, you won't be disappointed. The introduction of Hearst the mining magnate who wants to take over the town ratched everything up a notch and the actor playing that part (Gerald Rainey?) is note-perfect. I didn't find the show either slow or bleak, personally. I found its dark brutality and characters striving against all odds to forge some kind of bastard community a real breath of fresh air...or pungent air anyway! The real Deadwood town, if you read about it, was certainly a bit more raw than the average Roy Rogers western!
