She did choose three Black Static stories for reprint in the anthology itself though, which is nice.

Well done everybody for their honorable mentions too, of course, I meant to say that!
Might've been two stories in the book, not three. Daniel Kaysen's 'The Rising River' and Trent Hergenrader's 'The Hodag' (congratulations!) but if there was a third I can't remember now what it is... Maybe the third was shortlisted but didn't make it in after all.

580 stories in the long list, 20 from BS. there were probably less than 40 stories in BS that year (I haven't counted them as I can't automate it) so it's a vote of confidence.
50 in the short list, 2 from BS. So the statistics are about right.

Just had a quick look, and six from Crimewave also, two of which made the short list (not sure what that means statistically - is Crimewave more horrific than Black Static?).
Congratulations to everyone.

Great to be in the list. It's not so bad not getting in the book when you see you're up against Stephen King, Ramsey Campbell, etc. Congrats to those that got in.

Oh well, still happy for the good ones in there - The Hodag was a particular favourite of mine.

A good statistic for Black Static.
By the way, I always mention publications I've appeared in when sending story submissions, and in a recent reply was told "Black Static, eh? I'm impressed!" so obviously the magazine's reputation is a solid one.

I somewhat belatedly noticed that my 101 Ways To Leave Paris made the shortlist of honourable mentions in this book. It's nice to listed alongside such luminaries, but it was hardly a horror story. Pretty grim but not a horror story...

It's a very good story, Simon, though definitely crime rather than horror.

Cheers Mike, much appreciated.
I heard from Ellen today. She said the story almost made the cut due to the dark nature of its subject matter, but she couldn't quite justify it. But as I said, stellar company; I take the kudos where I can get 'em!
