Congrats to Hannu Rajaniemi, Aliette de Bodard and, of course, Greg Egan on making Gardner Dozois's Year's Best anthology.

Some interesting trends in there, if you're an anorak like me.

30 stories. More than usual for Dozois -- normally his ToC runs to between 23 and 28.

It's the split that I find most interesting. 14 stories from magazines. 5 from Asimovs, 4 from F&SF, 3 from IZ, one each from Clarkesworld and Postscripts. When Dozois was editing Asimovs, typically he picked 10 to 12 from that one magazine. No bias there, of course. I personally rate IZ ahead of F&SF and on a par with Asimovs, but that's my taste

What is a surprise is the 16 stories from anthologies. 3 from Eclipse 2, 2 each from Fast Forward 2, Solaris 2 & Galactic Empires, plus 1 each from 7 other different anthologies.

Assuming that Dozois isn't completely out of sync with the rest of the field, that implies a dominance that anthologies haven't had since about 1973.

The bad news about F&SF is that it's going bi-monthly this year, which is a shame. It's head and shoulders above the other American magazines in my opinion.

But I'm drifting off topic. Congratulations to the Interzone three!
