I couldn't see a thread for this, but I've just finished reading my copy. A nice varied issue, with memory appearing to be a strong linking theme amongst most of the tales, with Tim Lees and Sarah Brooks stories both focusing on characters haunted by memories of characters encountered and lost on journeys acting as a nice pair of matched bookends. In terms of SF ideas and ambition 'Paprika' was way out ahead, but I think ultimately 'Trans-Siberia: An Account of a Journey' was my favourite read this time round.

Is it just me or does this issue have a very strong smell, not unpleasant, but strong?

ink solvents linger in the page for while. You'll find other readers have commented on the aroma if you search the forum using 'small' as a keyword.

I rather like the smell. But then I also like the smell of warm tarmac and diesel fumes. Just started the issue.

My copy of #249 arrived in Boulder, CO on December 12, so overseas mailing is apparently still suffering from long delay, but it arrived safe and sound, for all that. Looks great!

My IZ#249 arrived last Wednesday (December 11) in Auckland, New Zealand. I had begun to wonder if it had gone missing en route.

Now, I have more stuff to read during the holiday break.

I'm lucky enough to be near a newsagents that stock both as well as Analog. Thoroughly enjoyed Haunts, I really admire short fiction writers who can weave a clever concept into such a short piece. Didn't realise Filaments was part of a series though, I enjoyed it all the same. That said the whole time I was reading Filaments I was thinking of this:

Unknown Cities of America was a great idea (because people in the UK frequently forget how big America is and just how much of it is empty) but I really wasn't overly fond of how the relationship started, just a personal gripe really.
