Thankfully I've only had one negative response to the ambiguity, a slightly odd chap at one of my crit groups who took the line that they were both women and then had issues with the notion of a lesbian relationship. If he felt that strongly I don't know why he didn't interpret them as being a male narrator! But then anything beyond macho heroic fantasy seems to get his goat. In the three years I've been reading his various drafts, I can count the number of female characters in his stories who have dialogue on one hand... :?

A friend from Finland has been writing a series of short stories in an alien world with three genders, using cues from Finnish language for additional personal pronouns, which have been consistently fascinating. I must shove her in the general direction of submitting them somewhere. :)

There's an old Brian Aldiss novel featuring tri-gendered aliens. Can't for the life of me remember which one though.

In some comments on BSFA Award nominated artworks somebody says this:

"...it’s not as bad as what the Interzone crew did to the base image on the cover of IZ225."

Can anybody suggest what that might be? I'm looking at it now, and I can't see that I did anything to the base image, other than lay down the necessary, and it's as off the art as possible, especially compared to previous issues where type was blended into the image.

Maybe they just got the number wrong, and meant issue 220, say, which might make more sense -- but which is also a work of genius.
