On my blog, I recently posted an essay about a trend in science fiction I call SciFi Strange. (You can read the entire post at http://www.jasonsanford.com/jason/2009/08/the-noticing-of-sf-strange.html.) To me, it seems there is a new literary movement in science fiction, similar but different to the New Wave movement back in the '60s and '70s. The movement combines a literary (and sometimes experimental) style with a multi-cultural viewpoint and examination of basic human desires and needs, all while staying within the real-world parameters of SF's literature of ideas.

Among the authors who have written and published this type of story in Interzone are Aliette de Bodard, Mercurio D. Rivera, Eugie Foster, and Gareth L. Powell.

Any thoughts on this from other Interzone readers?

It's an interesting idea. Certainly plenty of scope for an anthology of "Sci-fi Strange" stories.

I've just followed the link in Jason's latest blog entry to Edward Champion's Hate Mail Dramatic Reading Project.
