The Martian ChildI saw this DVD in a remainder pile and as I couldn't remember anything about it I thought I'd ask here.

A recently widowed science fiction writer forms an unlikely family with a close friend and a young adopted boy that claims to be from Mars. David Gerrold's original novella is certainly worth reading. It was first published in F&SF (I think), and it has doubtlessly been republished elsewhere. It was based on his own experiences of adopting a child. I haven't seen the film but, from what I've read, they've made it a more coventional family set-up. A widower?

I've seen that (..of course!), and it's not a bad effort.
Helps a lot if you like John Cusack, and can easily imagine him as a sci-fi writer.

If I remember right, the film's ambiguity about the 'Martian' boy does not survive past a mawkish ending. Not read DG's original story, but I assumed the film's non-SF ending was in keeping with that..?
