Agreed, better and I'm beginning to get it now.

Just finished watching this TV series to review for the next Interzone.
Not read the book, but I thought the whole show was excellent as fantasy drama.
Great to see magic taken seriously, too.
There's plenty of humour in it but - thankfully - no jokiness at the expense of the story or the characters.

Ah, the review does appear to be more or less saying that a tv adaptation is somewhat pointless in that it cannot reproduce the expanse of the novel. I think that probably goes without saying and it needs to be seen as a fairly different entity.

Lady Pole's predicament - both in the book and the tv version - is probably my favourite part. So utterly dark, it's compelling but not what I would describe as enjoyable reading/viewing.

Very jealous that Tony's seen the whole series!

Saw the last ‘chapter’ last night. No, it didn’t ‘need’ to be made – novels don’t need validation by the big or small screen – but in this Age of Banality, seven hours of dark magic and fantasy is cause for celebration in my opinion. A big cheer to everyone who didn't call it 'barmy' or 'bonkers', whether they liked it or not.

Now, will the tv version of Weaveworld ever be made, as has been promised for yonks? It doesn’t need to be, but even so…

I am afraid I gave up watching it about halfway.

Meanwhile, the book remains the masterpiece it has always been.

I've just lent my copy of the novel out, but I'll read it again as soon as I can. My view of the adaptation may change once I've refreshed my memory!

Not read the book, but enjoyed the series very much and it made me read a couple of Clarke's short stories featuring Jonathan Strange and John Uskglass. I can only hope that she'll manage to finish the novel featuring Childermass and Vinculus.

I've got the short story collection and would love to read some new fiction by Clarke. Last I heard, she was 'very unwell' which was worrying (I'd tried to get an interview with her around a year ago), so I wonder what her current situation is. Better than that, I hope.
