Bought three Woody Allen films - "Manhattan", "Everything You Ever Wanted..." and "Sleeper", but wondered if anyone could recommend some others I should have a look at?

Thanks

Ian

I'm a massive Woody Allen fan but it does depend on what kind of movie you're looking for, as although many of his tread similar ground some are more overtly funny/interesting than others.

As definites though, I'd go for Annie Hall, Deconstructing Harry, Midnight In Paris, Whatever Works, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Love and Death, Stardust Memories, Crimes and Misdemeanours. I'd probably avoid anything made between 1998 to 2007.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, Andrew, it does. I've got "Annie Hall" and was looking for a copy of "Stardust Memories" and also "Zelig" when I bought the other three, but no joy. I'm actually just back from Paris and was going to watch "Midnight in Paris" again, just to see if we could spot some locations we'd run across.

Yes, "Zelig"! Saw this at the cinema back in the day and loved it. Which reminds me, "Broadway Danny Rose" is also worth a watch.

Purple Rose Of Cairo - very good. Zelig is genius.

Aside from those mentioned, I like Manhattan Murder Mystery and Bullets Over Broadway a lot. Scoop wasn't even released in the UK, but has some great one-liners - you just wish Woody was in it more.

Hollywood Ending was a bit of a chore. Cassandra's Dream is one to avoid unless you've ever wondered what EastEnders would be like if the Mitchell brothers were played by Hollywood stars.

To Rome With Love has just shown up on Netflix (US) so I'm looking forward to watching that this weekend.

I didn't mind To Rome With Love, although there's not much depth to it. Woody can coast through this kind of thing, but the bits he is in are very funny.
