Des not long posted the following on FB coincidently
I saw a matinee production of HAUNTING JULIA, a ghost story play at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester, this afternoon. A play by Alan Ayckbourn. Marvellous. Anyone else know this play? The scary sound effects were enhanced by building work at the theatre. Seriously. It appealed to me, too, as it was effectively a Horror story with a classical music theme - of which I was unaware when producing THE FIRST BOOK OF CLASSICAL HORROR STORIES! it even mentioned Stockhausen!

Cheers Des and Ross.
The play is coming to Norwich in November, and I was stalling as I already have two theatre visits planned for that month. I think you may just have swayed me though.
One thing I did think, looking at the theatre brochure, it looked a bit "Woman in Black" (ish). Not the case?

This is what Gary F has said on my Facebook post today:
"Oh yes, I love this play. Truly frightening. Has a character-based depth lacking in the likes of Woman in Black. Sadly unknown in the field. A real contribution to the ghostly genre."
I agree.

Thanks Des. I'll make an effort to go to it now.

I have tickets for the 7th of November matinee. I've also noticed that the Theatre Royal Norwich has a ghost story writing competition connected with the play, which might be of interest, though I'd imagine the nature of the prize means only locals will enter.
