And now it seems Jackson has a trilogy in mind:-

Having seen a trailer, I suspect he's going to manage to achieve this by including all the songs.

I have seen and I quite enjoyed it. Didn't get bored. Some scenes were a bit Indiana Jones. The 3D not worth it but I didn't go to the Imax.

I went to see it dreading the possibility of cringe-worthy dwarf humour and too much padding. But the film totally drew me in and flew by. Really really good.

I went in with average expectations and was not disappointed. In fact, it was better than I thought it would be. I did think that it suffered somewhat from "trilogy bloat" though. The start was too slow and could easily have had 15-20 minutes cut out, and a number of other scenes felt to me like they had been stretched out beyond what they should have been (notably, the escape from goblin town). All in all I'd say it was worth a watch, but no masterpiece.

Been meaning to mention that I went and watched it - in 2D - before Christmas. As with Cameron, I went in not expecting great things and enjoyed it. It's very much the prequel / back story to the Lord of The Rngs in the way it's been done although it also stands on its own. Finding the younger dwarves almost attractive was a bit disturbing and the "multiple starts" feel made me laugh. it's a fitting beginning to a collective series that has multiple endings, after all.

Quite funny and a bit unnerving

In other news, any truth to the rumour that Bruce Willis is to play Biblo Baggins in the second of the trilogy, to be titled "Old Hobbits Die Hard"...
