Trailer here:-

It's nearly Halloween, so guess there must be a new "Saw" movie heading our way.

Yawn

I gave "V" a miss. Good call or not anyone?

As said in my column for BS#10, I thought Saw V was a good effort.

Ugh. They need to let this franchise die. All originality (and the vast majority of comprehensible plot) was lost around III. Now it just trades of its "torture-porn" reputation, with no need for actual effort.

And there's a scene in an episode of Two and a Half Men, a flashforward to the future, showing a cinema with a poster for Saw 33. It's rapidly becoming a less ridiculous concept.

I ended up seeing this against my better judgement, as the friend I was with is a fan of the franchise. I missed "V" and so asked her to bring me up to speed by condensing the plot, but when she did so my response was 'That sounds like it could be "Saw II", "III" or "IV".'

It was okay in a pass the time sort of way, and even rather entertaining once you got past the opening scenes of icky death taken to the max (at times I long for the good old days when the likes of Dr Phibes administered death with panache and a baroque aesthetic) and made a decision to ignore the dafter and less credible elements of the plot. The 'bad' guys being killed were insurance industry people, and I used to work in insurance so that helped

The cinema was about a quarter to a third full. Compare that to my trip to see the much superior "Triangle", when there were precisely three people in, including me.
