Anyone watch the first episode?

I watched it last night, online, and I must say I'm impressed. After the travesty of Stargate Atlantis, and the mess they made in the last two series of SG-1, this seems like it really has potential. Robert Carlyle was, as expected, fantastic, and the other actors and actresses were pretty good.

Also, it looks like it will be more of a BSG-style story arc, rather than the episodic format of previous Stargate series. I'm not prepared to say yet that this is going to be the new best show on TV, but it has potential for it, in my opinion- especially if Mr Carlyle keeps up this standard.

It does seem to have moved away from the high-camp of some of the later seasons of SG1. I couldn't bring myself to keep watching Atlantis so I expect I'm missing a few pieces of the plot puzzle (what ninth chevron? Eh?) but Robert Carlyle was great as always, and his character seems potentially shifty enough to keep things interesting.

Plenty of Sci-Fi tropes all present and correct - spurious timer on offworld jaunts adding wholly unnecessary element of peril? Check. Random assorted group of soldiers, politicians and geeks having to band together? Check. Alone in the far raches of space with no means of getting home? Check! But it's good enough so far to stick with to see where it goes. :)

Anyone else stuck with this so far? I watched last week's episode last night and felt that it was finally starting to hit its stride. :)

I'm loving it, honestly. It's taking the Stargate thing into the gritty, story-arc world that was previously dominated by BSG, and RC is frankly brilliant.

Indeed, if they had a planet, RC would be acting everybody else off it. :)

Only seen the first as yet (no regular net connection) but loved it. I can't stand over the top cheesy sf, so I found bsg and sgu refreshing
