10 Great Authors We Should All Stop Pigeonholing
Do we 'pidgeonhole' them?
A quote "The truth is, however, that Ballard was rejected early on from the sci-fi community, too different for many tastes." I don't think that's right (in the UK at least) though some of his work was controversial at the time.

I can see why some of these are on here, although I've always thought of Roald Dahl as both an adult and children's writer - particularly for those old enough to remember TV's Tales of the Unexpected.

JK Rowling being on there is a bit of a cheat, of course she is pidgeon-holed she's only just released her first non-fantasy book! King should be on the list instead.

David Barnett picks the IoS Books of the Year 2012: Sci-fi, fantasy and horror and one or two strong objections in the comments. Chris Becketts 'Dark Eden' should be there but as David knows Chris he may have deliberately avoided mentioning it.

Physics World reveals its top 10 breakthroughs for 2012
The Physics World award for the 2012 Breakthrough of the Year goes "to the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at CERN for their joint discovery of a Higgs-like particle at the Large Hadron Collider". Nine other research initiatives are highly commended and cover topics ranging from energy harvesting to precision cosmology

Not books but a top ten nonetheless.
