The long list for the Guardian's rival literary prize:-

Lots of familiar names including Gary McMahon, Nicholas Royle, Graham Joyce and Greg Egan.
I'm a bit nonplussed by some of it. Eligibility is published or scheduled for publication between 1st Oct 2010 and 30 Sept 2011. To vote books onto the short list you have to write a review of the book you're voting for, and closing date is something like the 20th of August, but isn't that hugely handicappping those published after that date (e.g. Nicholas Royle's "Regicide" which isn't officially out until 1st September)?
What am I missing here?
