I need some help with a technical point in a crime story that I'm writing.

Long story short, this guy gets murdered. He's living in a shared house with a group of strangers, who all become suspects in the investigation. He has no traceable relatives or friends. It's necessary for the story to have a funeral scene. My question is, when the police release the body, who is responsible for organising and paying for the funeral?

Frank

I believe it used to be social services, Frank - though whether it still is, I don’t know. My advice would be to contact the press office at the HQ of Co-operative Funeralcare; being Britain’s biggest undertaker, they’d know for sure.

Mat is right - from a quick Google, it seems the relevant legislation is Section 46(1) of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984.
