Welcome to the Concept Sci-fi 2009 short story competition - your chance to win £100 and some signed goodies.

This year Sean Williams, author of the Astropolis series and numerous Star Wars books, will be judging the competition. He's also responsible for setting the theme!

The competition costs £3.50 (GBP) to enter and all short-listed entries will be published in a special edition of the Concept Sci-fi ezine. The winning entry will be decided by Sean and announced on the Concept Sci-fi website. So, what are you waiting for? Check out the details here.

Another (unrelated) short story competition just advertised by Hub magazine:

Does anyone else find this extract from the competition rules a bit odd?
• Non-winning entries may be published in Hub Magazine, for which no fee will be payable.
• Writers retain full copyright to their works, but assign indefinite, non-exclusive print, electronic and audio rights to Right Hand Publishing Ltd (publisher of Hub magazine).

Does this imply that non-winning entries may be kept on record and printed or recorded at any time in the future for no fee? That seems a bit excessive. I wouldn't enter on those terms. (The full guidelines point out that this "indefinite" right expires in 12 months if not exercised, but I'd probably still like to see an exception for non-winning stories made explicit...)

Otherwise, looks like a cool competition. :)
