right,

for a while i've been thinking about doing this and have finally decided now is the time!!

basically it is a 'zine' style anthology(chapbook style) (to keep costs down and make it affordable for the reader) entitled "Tales from the Smoking Room" for which I would require short stories from the victorian/edwardian period which could encompass out and out horror perhaps with some crime and steampunk thrown in for good measure (as long as it's dark!!). if they happen to be set, mention or are told in the smoking room of a gentlemans club then that's all for the good.

we are looking for tales up to 3500 words and also for some flash fiction pieces.

pay is looking like being a fiver plus a couple of copies.

if anyone is interested please get in touch via PM and i'll give you some more details and we can go from there.

right then just to keep you updated, we should be letting people know who's in and who's not in about three weeks.

the anthology itself should step from the shadows in the first quarter of 2009.

right then almost ready to go :D

and yes it has taken a while

Tales from the Smoking Room

The Strangled Garden - Stephen Bacon
Room Three - Matthew Crossman
The Iron Ape - Mark Harding
The Decent Thing - VC Jones
Parlour Games - Mike Chinn
Serendipity - Trudi Topham
A Game of Billiards - Craig Herbertson

Mainly in the horror/weird genre but a couple crossover with a steam punk/sci fi vibe.

I'll post up where they'll be available from and for how many sheckles over the weekend.

I just noticed this now.

Benedict, this looks very interesting. Reminiscent of The Willows Magazine. Is it now closed to subs or will there be "future" editions of this style chapbook?

I both love to read and write stories set around the Victorian Age, Industrial Revolution, Roaring Twenties and the occasional Turn of the Century yarn or "weird tale".

Look forward to this.

Cheers,
Lawrence

ADDED: Ah, just noticed, you're closed to subs. Sorry.

i decided the other stories were better than i what i'd come up with and thought i'd leave mine out!! quality rather than self promo :D

@lawrence - yes i got a copy of 'the willows' while we were putting this together and in terms of style it is somewhat similar.
there MAY be another one on the Victoriana tip next year but we've got a couple of other things we want to do in this one shot format first.
