Russia looked like a different team last night. I just hope the Dutch can keep their fantastic momentum going. Saturday's game should be a good one for the neutrals, even if I'm a nervous wreck by the end of it!

Drink more beer while watching the game...

Great ... the team I'm paying for are out, and now the team I was rooting for are out ...

Oh, well. So long as Germany don't win ...

(Sorry, Jetse. Nothing personal, against you at least.)

Very exciting game last night. Portugal were on the attack for so much of the match but when it came to the defending they showed their weakness, so you have to say the Germans deserved it.

Gonna be tight again tonight: and it's Me V Des! What a heavyweight clash that's going to be!

I'll be watching the match, Neil - unless it clashes with Big Brother, of course.

There'll be a bit of overlap Des. The match should finish at 9.30 so you'll have plenty time to turn over and see who the new housemate to replace eveil alex is...er, not that I've been following it.

I don't know, but to me it looked like Ronaldo didn't even feel like playing last night. Perhaps he was too busy working out how much money he's going to get from his transfer to Real Madrid?

It was the poor quality of Portugal's crosses that shocked me. How often did they get a corner, only to knock it high and way beyond the goal? From
supposedly world-class players, it was shocking. On the other hand, Ballack's goal should've been disallowed for pushing, and possibly Portugal should've had a penalty - looked like Gomes was pulled down in the box - but maybe it was a dive; we didn't get to see a replay, so it's hard to say. Anyway, on the night, Portugal just didn't play well enough to deserve it.

Ronaldo going to Real Madrid? Man United keep insisting that he's not for sale. So it can't possibly be true...

Also, Real Madrid paying him more than the lousy 8 million euros a year they're paying Ruud van Nistelrooij? I'd wait until the very end of the European Championships if I was Real Madrid's chairman.

Anyway, I looked back in the thread to see that my three predicted black horses (Croatia, Turkey and Russia) all made it to the quarter finals, with the certainty that at least one of them (and not more, I hope and hasten to add... ) will make it to the semis.

Looking forward very much to the Neil vs. Des clash of the titans coming up soon. I hope at least five goals like the previous quarter final.

BTW: Foxie, I'm not exactly overflowing with support for Germany (while I should, I know... ), and -- even worse -- the more I hope they won't make it, the more determined they seem to prove me wrong. So maybe I should've expressed my enthusiastic support for Germany right from the start (and throw my social life out the window).

The next Con we meet, Neil, you owe me at least a pint for grievance... :D

Well, writing this before penalties. That ending of extra time must be the most amazing ever!?

This game was pedestrian in the first half, and became boring in the second bordering on somnolent in the extra time.

I was so bored I started doing homely chores, brushed my teeth, started surfing, and so on.

And then two goals in the last two minutes, and Turkey -- against all odds -- goes to the semifinals.

Congrats to Des!

See you in the semis...

(BTW, I can't help but think that the Germans (and, indeed, I) must be laughing all the way to the bank: an exhausted Turkey, losing about half of their players due to yellow cards. Also, the way both Croatia and Turkey played I don't see either beating Germany, although there might be a third Turkish miracle.)

Thanks, Jetse. And sorry, Neil, for scoring a goal 4 seconds after the whistle should have been blown.
But what an incredible few minutes!!!
And my team is in the semi-final.

Not your fault, Des. I have to say I feel robbed, but all football teams should be able to take penalties.

Bah!

Still, watching the Gary v Max smackdown tonight should help. There's no way that one's going to be as tight as last night's was!

Bum! Whoever gave Arjen Robben that knock during training deserves a good slap! I shall now abstain from betting for another 4 years...

1 - 3

Drunk and hung over at the same time.

Oh well.

The Russians were better: whatever chutzpah we had against Italy and France is what they had against us. And Mike: I do agree that our left flank needed inspiration, and indeed Robben was injured, unfortunately.

Still, I can't help but feel that we were our own worst enemies (psychologically).

Congrats to Hiddink and the Russians.
