Very true!
:)

Unless there's heavyweight media/ads 'branding' for human clones (in which case, they might be given a corporate-sponsored *name* ?), seems to me an existing word might well find a wholly different usage in the future. I'd suspect religious fundamentalists might want to label clones as 'bastards'.
:P

I'd love to see them called 'Denlabs' or something, in the manner of Hoovers, Coke, Xerox or Post Its. Maybe their slogan could be: 'The natural way: you get what you pay for.' Or: 'Denlabs--Love yourself.'

You seem to have started something here, Colin ...

I suppose the other thing that distinguishes non-clones is that they are the first phenotype of their genotype; clones are, by definition, 'subsequent editions', so to speak. So perhaps non-clones could be called 'Originals'.

(oh no - I feel a Spinal Tap moment coming on! )

How about Enolc? The opposite or reverse of Clone?

Oh, Foxie, you ain't seen nothing yet! This is just a bit of background.

Bob,

It's a nice idea, but doesn't really trip off the tongue. Although, maybe with practice...

Colin

A re-print, or (if GM) director's cut?

:D issue of copulation - no copulation involved :(
natural - unatural
unscripted - scripted

keep thinking

A future without copulation? How will Heat magazine survive!?

'I Married My Clone--she's the only one who understands me'

'Tom Cruise 2.4 robs bank--Cruise clan blames experimental height gene'

Frankly, the idea of the human race freed from wanting sex all the time scares the hell out of me. I mean, after having sex with each other, killing each other is humanity's most passionate pursuit.

Foxie,

I think you're confusing copulation with procreation! But that Tom Cruise reference...I like that. No, mustn't get distracted.

But it might well be that marriages specifically to have children in utero would lead to such arrangements being known as Breeders...especially amongst the clones, who will no doubt have their own set of nicknames. But
that's a slight variation on my original question about the 'scientific' term for non-clones.

I'm starting to like Originals. It's not as judgemental as Naturals.

So you have:
Scientific appelations: Originals & Clones
Clone appelations: Breeders & Scripted
Non-clone appelations: Naturals & Bastards

Wow...all that for about one sentence. At this rate, I'll still be writing this novel next century, let alone next year!

Thanks all!

One itty bitty problem with 'Originals' is they're already jeans, as opposed to genes.

The same name can cover a multitude of subjects; think Colt, which can be a (Japanese) car, a beer, and of course a make of gun.

So I don't see it being a problem, especially if it's in context! But maybe you could have washed-out genes as well? :D

Tsk tsk, Mr Harvey, we'll have no eugenic pogroms here. ;)

Exactly the problem that Spinal Tap had!:
Quote:
Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest): "And then, we looked at each other and said..."
David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean): "Said, look, why not?"
Nigel: "...we might as well join up. You know?"
David: "So, we became the Originals."
Nigel: "Right."
David: "And, uh, we had to change our name, actually."
Nigel: "Well, there was another group, in the east end, called the Originals and we had to rename ourselves."
David: "the New Originals."
Nigel: "the New Originals."
David: "Yeah."
Nigel: "And they became..."
David: "...the Regulars. They changed their name back to the Regulars. And we thought we could go back to the Originals, but what's the point?"
