Chart champions unsigned writers
A special chart has been launched for budding authors on a website that invites users to rate the opening chapters of unpublished books.
Each month, the people behind the three highest-ranked stories at the site, YouWriteOn.com, will receive critiques from established writers and agents.

These stories will then enter the Bestseller Chart.

This info is over a year old and I haven't seen it before or heard anything of the website. Anyone here been involved or voted?

I've been involved with http://www.youwriteon.com/ since its conception and was made aware of it by the SF writer Neal Asher and duly uploaded 10,000 words of a novel I was messing around with called 'Flames of Herakleitos'. It was voted as one of the top books for the month and I was rewarded with a critique by the novelist Phil Whitaker and authors' agent Joanna Devereux. The book went on to hold one of the top positions in the SF/F/Horror charts for quite some time. Ultimately it was picked up by Screamingdreams Publishing (and is now doing pretty well), so for me the Youwriteon site was instrumental in getting me published. You don't get asked to pay anything, you don't get asked to make a donation, the site is sponsored by The Arts Council of England. The only thing you are required to do is read and give a fair critique of other peoples work to earn points which will allow your own work to be reviewed.

The first 10,000 words is still up on the site here:
http://www.youwriteon.com/books/bookdetail.aspx?bookguid=cdeb24c4-ad41-45d1-88ff-93f2efe75335 should you want a look.

The site is very handy for receiving feedback on work in progress, and its free!

Thanks Bob. I'll check it out. I had another look and noticed they have short stories as well and their categories include SF.

Cheers, Roy :)
It's going to be an uphill struggle though, there are some well-known authors in there with me and they have mainstream publishers too, Steve has only just started with his Small Press Publishing (Screamingdreams) so we're struggling to get into bricks and mortar stores. However, he has got it stocked in Cold Tonnage and Jeff n Joys Quality Books. It's doing well on Amazon though! :)
Best,
Bob

ps did you upload anything to Youwriteon?

I'm sure a Welsh book of the year nomination will help with Welsh libraries. Talk to Holt Jackson. We all have those problems with retailers.

No I have not uploaded anything as I only write short fiction.

Thanks to your posts, youwriteon.com intrigued me and I went ahead and posted the opening chapters of a novel, titled "The Masks of Truth", and am looking forward to the feedback.

OK I'll have a look. As it is Arts Council of England funded, at least partly, I'm not sure how they'll take to Canadian submissions, let us know.
