I've blogged about my favourite books/movies that I read/saw in 2012. Perhaps this thread could be used for similar blogs/discussions...?

The Faceless by Simon Bestwick
A Cold Season by Alison Littlewood
Everything released by Spectral Press
Chuck Wendig's two Miriam Black Books
Black Static magazine
Peel Back the Sky by Stephen Bacon

and pretty much everything Gary McMahon had a hand in.

5 favourite short stories:

Shark! Shark! by Ray Cluley
Cinder Images by Gary McMahon
Barbary by Jackson Kuhl
Odd Number at Table by John Costello
Senbazuru by VH Leslie

Favourite novella:

The Nine Deaths of Dr Valentine

Best discovery:

Let's Go Play at the Adams' by Mendal Johnson (1974) - Picked up after it was highly recommended at a This is Horror event. This is a very hard and emotional read which will linger long after you finish. Superbly written with accomplished characterisation you are left to wonder just how succesful Johnson could have been if he hadn't died in 1976. Perhaps he would have rivalled King.

As for things that disappointed this year:

The Cabin in the Woods - I just didn't get the hype. Felt like a couple of pre-teens had been given a video camera to make a horror movie and chucked in everything they had ever seen.

Some Kind of Fairy Tale by Graham Joyce - It was always going to be hard to follow the sublime 'The Silent Land' and I did by and large enjoy the plot and characterisation of the book but the intrusive narrator left me with a feeling that I had either missed something important or I was being duped.

There you go...

A very good year in my opinion.

Thanks for the mention Ross! :D

I'm looking forward to Peel Back the Sky - it's getting nearer the top of my TBR pile!

I've only seen about half of these, but disagree with most of their choices.
Chronicle and Hunger Games are far from being the best, while Prometheus, Wrath Of The Titans, and Mirror Mirror, should be in the top 10, not on the worst list. There were much worse movies released this year.
