He was one of my favourite genre writers and his short fiction, especially, helped shape my reading tastes.

Ray Bradbury, more than any other writer, got me back into reading in my early teens. His short stories are superb, and Fahrenheit 451, the Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes are all landmark books in their genre. A true legend. He paved the way for my later discovery of PKD, Aldiss, Ballard and so many other interesting writers.

I wrote at length here yesterday but it doesn't seem to have saved, but I've blogged a tribute now at my site. I was deeply saddened yesterday and spent a long time thinking about Bradbury's impact on my life, which has been substantial. I pick up his books like I listen to favourite songs. The world has lost a great writer.

A great imagination has left our world.
I grew up reading Ray Bradbury and he opened up new worlds--not only fictional, but worlds of words.
He was a true wordsmith, a real stylist.
He had an uncanny knack for making the strange seem familiar, and relationships were always key in his works.

I raise a glass of dandelion wine to you, Mr Bradbury. God bless.
