Scotland's got Croatia in their qualifying group for the next World Cup. This means that they're going to reach the final (Spain, Italy, France, Holland etc.) How's that for an omen, Stephen?

66:1 - now those are my kind of odds! Relieved to have missed England...

I suspect we'll already be on our way out of this when our teams clash on 19 June Lynda. Ukraine are poor and I don't think Hodgson will manage to crock enough England players before the group matches for you to stand a chance. Poor old Max - not content with worrying about the viability of his holiday in Greece*, he's now in despair about the viability of the Greek Squad.

*Most of Year 13 at Southwell Minster School seem to be going to Greece in July - surely they have suffered enough? The Greeks I mean, not the debauched students.

I was surprised that some commentators said England defended well. If trying hard not to get closer than six feet to an attacker and waiting until they kicked the ball is defending, then I guess they did! I've actually seen Hull City defend better than that!

I've seen Forest defend better than that Jim. But not this season!

So, the big kick off is only a couple of hours away, and they say you really HAVE to win your first match to be confident of going through from the group stages. By the end of the evening Ross, Max, Vaughan and Andy C will either be feeling rather pleased with themselves or wishing they'd never bothered.

Good luck, all!

It seems likely that we're going to get at least one team walk off the pitch btw. I think that's exactly the right thing to do -- isn't it?

That's a good question, Andy. Personally, I'd hope the referees would take the decision out of the players hands so that the action is seen to be taken by football as a whole rather than by individuals. I'd be quite happy to see a ref stop the game and take the players off until the authorities sort bouts of that kind of stuff out.

They won't have to bottle to take the teams off, will they?

Only the players have the power to do this. It's a big test.

I think they will, Jim. In fact I'd be *really* disappointed if they didn't. I remember Craig Thompson relatively recently stopping a game between Serbia and...I think Italy because of crowd trouble. That *was* violence though, not chanting, but it shows it can be done.

Czechs mediocre, Arshavin superb. I think my fiver is safe with someone else!

Cracking start to Euro 2012, though.

Missed the first game, but I was surprised by how well Russia played, never expected them to do that to the Czech! Great opener for them.
Looking forward to today's games!
