Spain really started the game like it mattered to them, put Italy on the back foot and got their early goal. It would have taken a huge effort by the Italians to overturn them, and I think it was a done deal when Jordi Alba's second went in. Second half was a bit of a battle with little football happening til the end. Didn't realise Italy were down to 10 men when their third sub was injured. Says much for them that they remained competitive until the end.
As for the sweep, both Jim and Chris
made it out for the final. Jim took it on the chin and, once the prizes were handed out, we all got a bit drunk. So, a successful night.
On as a side note as sweep administrator, while it's very convenient for me and while it makes the final into a bit more of an event to have my Glasgow mates drawing the teams that end up in the final, again, it still looks a bit dodgy (honestly, though, at one point I was convinced it was going to be Roy and Des in the final). I just hope to god it doesn't happen again next time, otherwise I'll be being interviewed by Mr Leveson.
Thanks all for playing.
