In the post this morning an ARC from Sphere of "The Darkening" by Stephen M. Irwin, who they describe as 'A massive new talent in supernatural suspense'.

For those who're not familiar with ARCs, sometimes the publishers print on the back what they consider are the sellings points of a book, and for this one, among others, we have:-

Will appeal to fans of Sphere's blockbuster debut The Birthing House which has sold over 140,000 copies to date

And (this is the important bit):-

A newly thriving area of the market with huge demand and potential cross-over from thriller fans

One swallow does not make a summer, but I find statements like this encouraging as regards Horror's perceived market viability.
