Sam Stone has a BA (Hons) in English and Writing for Performance and an MA in Creative Writing, which means that she is frequently invited to talk about writing in schools, colleges and universities. However she is perhaps best known as the author of the Vampire Gene series published by The House of Murky Depths.
I (Roy) can't find any reviews of Sam's books in Peter Tennant's Case Notes but Pete did write the following "Saucy Jack also features in 'Fool's Gold' by Sam Stone, a well written tale that provides one of the most original takes on vampires and the Ripper that I can recall seeing." of Sam's Jack the Ripper story Fool's Gold in Ian Whates' Newcon Press paperback The Bitten Word.
Sam won the British Fantasy award in 2011 for both short story and novel but withdrew when some of that year's non-winners complained that her partner had overseen the voting. This was a shame as Sam was the first woman to win the novel award for a number of years and, as the Case Notes quote above shows, Sam both writes well and devises original plots and ideas.
Sam's Amazon page now shows 12 entries comprising her novels, collections and contributions to anthologies and she recently signed a contract with the BBC's audiobook arm - Audiogo. Hence the appearance of Zombies in New York and Other Bloody Jottings on their lists both as individual stories and as the full collection. The collection was published in print and ebook by Telos but the Audiogo audiobook version is now available from Amazon plus it's free with an Audible.co.uk 30-day free trial membership.
The full audiobook includes a bonus story, 'Walking the Dead', which does not appear in the printed edition.
Vampire Gene Series: Killing Kiss, Futile Flame, Demon Dance, Hateful Heart and Silent Sand.
