The Gist is the latest work from the pen of Michael Marshall Smith, a novelette about a dealer in lost books, which sounds interesting enough, but there's more.
The Gist was translated into French by Benoît Domis, before being rendered back into English by Nicholas Royle —who had no access to the original text or author during the process.
By way of examining the elasticity of text and language, an edition of The Gist containing all three versions will be published by Subterranean Press in Spring 2013.
